George Town Heritage Food Tour
Penang has the popular street food in Asia, but finding the right stalls without a local means queuing at tourist traps while the real gems stay hidden. We know exactly who does what dish best.

How It Works
Three steps to eating like a local
Pick your adventure
Choose the tour that matches your taste — join a small group or book a private experience. Every route is built around the real food locals actually eat.
Meet your guide
A local who knows every stall, every hawker, and every story behind the food. This is the person who grew up eating here — they'll take you where guidebooks can't.
Eat without worry
8+ stops, 3–4 hours, one incredible meal. Every dish is vetted, every stall is trusted, and every bite comes with a story. You just show up and enjoy.
What Makes It Special
Food-Touren in
The People
The shophouse families who have kept George Town's kopitiams and Nyonya kitchens alive for generations.
The Places
The heritage lanes of George Town, from the kopitiam corners to the shophouse kitchens. You move between them on foot, because that is the only way to find the good ones, and every stop is a place locals have trusted for years.
The Stories
George Town was the first British settlement in Southeast Asia, and its food carries every wave of migration, a history you can eat in a single walk.

A food tour of Georgetown Heritage is the way to taste Penang the way locals actually eat it. George Town's heritage lanes are a Unesco-listed pocket where two centuries of Penang food live in the shophouses. On a Simply Enak walk through Georgetown Heritage, you try the things the neighbourhood is quietly known for, among them Nyonya cooking, kopitiam classics and the street food of the old town. Your guide grew up eating here and knows which stall does each dish well, which queue is worth it, and the order to eat the meal in.
Why visit Georgetown Heritage on a food tour?
A dedicated tour of Georgetown Heritage works because the neighbourhood concentrates its food in a small area you can cover on foot. You taste more, learn more about the families behind the stalls, and leave knowing exactly where to come back to on your own.
How is the tour run?
Small groups of no more than nine, a local guide who knows the neighbourhood well, and an easy pace with seated stops. Since 2011, Simply Enak has been showing guests the real Malaysia, and Georgetown Heritage is one of the corners that proves it.
What does a Georgetown Heritage food tour cover?
A walk through Georgetown Heritage covers the main food corners in about two and a half to three hours, with fifteen or more tastings along the way. Nyonya cooking, kopitiam classics and the street food of the old town are on almost every route. You move on foot between a handful of stalls, stopping to watch food being made, meeting the families behind it, and finishing at a drink or dessert stop. The pace is easy, with seated stops as often as standing ones.
Should I eat in Georgetown Heritage or explore on my own?
A guide earns its keep in a place like Georgetown Heritage three ways: you do not waste a queue on the wrong stall, you taste the things the neighbourhood is known for rather than whatever the menu happens to offer, and you leave knowing exactly where to return. For a visitor on a short trip, that is the difference between a good meal and the right meals.
